jason’s story
My sim racing experience started with an unexpected 1-hour session at a sim rental facility that had motion rigs. I was really impressed with the immersion and couldn’t wait to do it again, which I did about 2 months later in a different city as I was traveling. I’d had little experience with racing games, and didn’t have a PC at the time, but set out to start building everything from the ground up. I started with iRacing, which is still what I spend most time on, and found a couple of real-life communities with online racing divisions, like PCA’s sim racing league. Unexpectedly, I most wanted to get into open wheel racing, but have found myself spending the most time in sports cars and, of course, a lot on the MX-5.
Any advice for other sim racers?
It’s way more rewarding and less daunting than you might assume considering the investment. If you’re at all hesitant, talk to a current or previous owner and they’ll likely be happy to tell you about their experience.

Why Qubic System?
I try to take care with my purchasing decisions, and given the time and monetary investment involved, put a lot of research into my decision for motion system. All said and done, Qubic has a tremendous amount of support from both the community and the developers, along with highly capable and overbuilt hardware/software. Setting everything up was incredibly satisfying and felt like working with a piece of aerospace equipment, despite how simple and natural the process was. The few questions I had about preferences were answered by several helpful people on Discord.
Now, I’m actually more impressed than the day I got it. All of the updates have been flawless, every new game I’ve tried has worked automatically, and the more time you spend with it the more you can really appreciate all the nuanced details that have gone into the system along with the tweaking it affords you.
Future Plans
I’m not nearly at the skill level, nor do I have time right now, to have real plans other than spending what little time I can practicing. The things I fantasize about are constructing a more immersive container for the chassis (roof liner and siding) and redesigning the room my rig currently sits in, though I share it with a toddler.
