JACKZER had tried belt tensioners before and was not sold. All of it at expos, on other people’s rigs, set to other people’s taste and usually turned right up. What he remembers is being squeezed hard on the brakes and learning nothing else from it.

So he got in touch and asked for a unit to live with. What he wanted to know was whether it does anything for lap time, or whether it is purely an experience thing. That distinction matters to him, because his stated goal is to be quick, and anything that gets in the way of that is going back in the box. We sent a QS-BT1 over with no review of the video and no say in what went into it. He put it on his own rig, left every other part of the setup alone, and went to a track he knows inside out.

What he found on his own rig was far more detailed than anything the expos had shown him. Turn right and the left belt loads up. Turn left and the right one does. Curbs arrive in the correct shoulder. Gear changes land as a kick, and coming over a crest the car going light shows up as pressure lifting off his collar bones. Each belt is driven on its own channel and scaled to telemetry, so the two sides are rarely doing the same thing at the same time.

The part that got his attention was not the braking. It was the middle of the corner, where the wheel goes light and you are mostly guessing, and one belt is still holding load while the other has released. He calls it a second source of information next to the wheelbase, and says it makes the line through a corner easier to picture and repeat. That is a performance argument, not an immersion one, from someone who came in expecting the opposite.

• The vibration that means the rear is slipping, and the one that means it is gone
• His verdict on latency, which he brings up himself after the first lap
• How the belts behave when the car gets airborne and lands again
• Why the default settings are too much for him, and where he is taking them

This is a first impression rather than a review, and he says as much, pointing people toward the longer tests for that. He is keeping the unit and coming back to it, which is the video we are waiting for.
