Race Beyond Matter Puts QS-TP1 Traction Pro to the Test in a 5 DOF Rig
Race Beyond Matter has published a new video in which our QS-TP1 Traction Pro joins a rig already running four Qubic System actuators, turning it into a five-axis (5 DOF) motion setup. It’s a candid first drive: it opens with real nerves about whether the idea will work and ends in genuine relief. If you’re thinking about adding traction loss to your own setup, it’s well worth ten minutes of your time.
A different take on motion
The concept behind this rig goes against how most setups are built. Everything around the driver stays static, including the steering wheel, and the motion focuses on one thing: what happens to the driver’s body under G-forces. Until now, Race Beyond Matter had run this approach in 3 DOF, so adding traction loss was the big unknown.
The second change is just as interesting. The seat now sits exactly in the middle of the four actuators. On many rigs the driver sits too far back, so every time the rear actuators kick, the body gets lifted in a way that doesn’t feel like a real car. Sitting centered is closer to a real driving position and makes it much easier to feel the chassis rotate when traction loss kicks in.
What you’ll see in the video
- A steady distance to the wheel under acceleration and braking. The base platform and the seat move in opposite directions and compensate each other, while the body still leans with the G-forces.
- Clear chassis rotation as the rear steps out, with a real sense of how far sideways the car is going.
- Catching slides by feel. At one point he admits he’s no longer sure whether he’s correcting through force feedback or through what he feels in the seat.
- A Qubic System belt tensioner in the mix, adding to what he describes again and again as a completely natural feel.
The verdict
By the end of the session, the conclusion is simple: the concept works exactly as planned, even in 5 DOF, and catching the car feels natural. The next test is already lined up, and it’s rally. We can’t wait to see it.
About QS-TP1 Traction Pro
QS-TP1 Traction Pro adds traction loss to a Qubic System motion setup. Mounted under four vertical actuators, it creates a five-axis configuration like the one in this video. It ships flat-pack for self-assembly, so it arrives in a few manageable boxes instead of one heavy pallet.
